Producer Spotlight: Michel Chapoutier
Originating from the Rhône valley, Michel Chapoutier is one of France’s pioneering winemakers and is a strong advocate for quality and sustainability. In 1999 he purchased the Bila-Haut estate in the Côtes du Roussillon – a subregion of the Languedoc known for consistently bringing high quality-to-value wines to the international market. The estate vines are 40+ years old, sustainably farmed and managed meticulously to cultivate the highest quality fruit to create expressive, vegan-friendly, award-winning wines that continue to raise the bar for the under $20 category.
MICHEL CHAPOUTIER – Bila-Haut Blanc, Côtes du Roussillon
A dry, blended white wine that perfectly balances refreshing citrus notes with a creamy richness to deliver a soft, approachable expression that finishes on a subtle saline note underscored by delicate mineral complexity. Warming alcohol (13.5%) complements ripe, juicy acidity for an ideal autumn season option to enjoy with or without food. Pair with warm foods of medium flavour intensity: any kind of pot pie or cream-based soups, chowders, etc.
MICHEL CHAPOUTIER – Bila-Haut Rouge, Côtes du Roussillon-Villages
A full-bodied, dry, blended red wine starring the dark fruit character and black pepper spice of Syrah in the leading role with supporting roles from Grenache and Carignan bringing silky texture and tangy freshness, respectively. Heady alcohol (15%) and velvety tannins bring a soothing expression that is sure to warm you from the inside out as we head into the cooler autumn weather. Enjoy this wine with bold and rich flavoured foods: hearty stews, braised lamb, roast beef.
