The purpose of the Cannabis Clerk 1 position is to provide reception, merchandising, consultative, and sales transaction fulfillment services in a government-run cannabis retail store in a manner which complies with all provincial regulations and internal corporate policies. This position will normally include evening and weekend work.
Duties include:
- Deal courteously and tactfully with the public and assist customers in a helpful and friendly manner with purchases and/or inquiries;
- Maintain positive working relationship with co-workers to ensure a positive team environment is perceived by customers;
- Provide excellent customer service: being patient; attentive; demonstrating excellent product knowledge; using clear communication skills with positive language; having an ability to read customers and being able to react to new or unique customer scenarios; using good time management; having a calming presence, using empathy; and being goal oriented with a willingness to learn;
- Maintain up-to-date product knowledge as per PEICMC standards
- Balance cash float prior to the start of shift;
- Sign onto computerized point-of-sale terminal;
- Process and fulfill sales transactions in an accurate and timely fashion
- Purchase change from safe and maintaining accuracy of cash on-hand at all times;
- Keep work area clean, organized, and safe;
- Balance cash to terminal readings.
- Place inventory in retail areas as required to maintain adequate levels of inventory in the retail area of the store;
- Assist with ensuring product stock is properly rotated; and
- Assist with the creation and stocking of store displays in accordance with cannabis marketing strategies.
- Provide assistance in the unload cannabis orders and reconcile product received with bills of lading;
- Act as receptionist in lobby area and control customer flow;
- Monitor retail area for under-aged individuals;
- Monitor retail area for intoxicated individuals;
- Maintain surveillance in retail area for potential problems (e.g. theft, hazards, etc.);
- Deal with shoplifters as per PEICMC policy;
- Check customer orders to ensure accuracy;
- Check coin orders from safe for accuracy; and
- General surveillance of retail and storage areas.
- Sweep and scrub floors in retail area daily;
- Sweep and scrub floors in storage areas as required;
- Collect garbage in office, retail area, and storage areas daily;
- Clean washrooms, kitchen, and utility room as required;
- Clean shelves and fixtures to ensure a clean retail area as required;
- Remove snow from walkways and entrance areas as required;
- Maintain an overall clean and organized work environment on a continuous basis
- Continuously present a positive image for PEICMC that complies with all PEICMC dress code requirements;
Qualifications
- Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent;
- The successful candidate must pass an on-boarding program specific to the sale of cannabis within the first year of employment;
- Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed an employer recognized cannabis training program;
- Experience in retail sales (e.g. providing customer service, using a computerize Point-of-Sale terminal, merchandising, etc.), preferably dealing with cannabis;
- Must be physically capable of lifting packaged merchandise weighing up to 5KG for continuous periods of time;
- Knowledge of legislative and regulatory framework that governs the operation of a cannabis retail store;
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills;
- Ability to learn and adapt to new procedures quickly and easily; and
- Must have very good time management and organizational skills
