PEILCC Supports Heart & Stroke for 8th Annual Paper Hearts Promotion

February 4th, 2019

PEI Liquor - Heart and Stroke Paper Hearts CampaignDuring Heart Month in February, the PEI Liquor Control Commission (PEILCC) will again partner with Heart & Stroke in support of their Paper Hearts campaign. Running in all Island corporate retail liquor outlets, the annual fundraiser will invite customers to purchase a $2 paper heart throughout the month of February.

“We are delighted to welcome the PEI Liquor Control Commission back for the eighth year and thank them, and their customers for their continued support,” said Charlotte Comrie, CEO, Heart & Stroke PEI and NS. “Monies raised through the sale of paper hearts represent an important contribution to the fulfillment of our mission of promoting health, saving lives and enhancing recovery. To date, the PEILCC Paper Hearts promotion has raised an amazing total of more than $80,000.”

“The PEILCC Paper Hearts promotion is a tradition that Islanders are proud to support,” said Heath MacDonald, minister responsible for the PEILCC. “For more than 60 years the Heart & Stroke foundation has been dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke, saving and improving lives. We are pleased to again support their lifesaving work through this campaign.”

“Since 1952, when Heart & Stroke began funding research, deaths rates from heart disease and stroke have declined by more than 75 per cent,” commented Comrie. “But there is so much more to do: despite this progress, these diseases still take the life of a Canadian every seven minutes. Every dollar raised goes to support critical breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of these diseases as well as resources to help Islanders and all Canadians reduce their risk.”
