Lightfoot & Wolfville Tidal Bay
I love a Tidal Bay in the summer, or anytime, really! Light, refreshing, and distinctly Nova Scotian, Tidal Bay is a wine that captures the character of the province while offering the perfect balance of freshness and elegance.
For those not in the know, Tidal Bay is Nova Scotia’s official wine appellation, similar to renowned appellations such as Chianti, Rioja, and Champagne. Tidal Bay wines are made entirely from Nova Scotia grapes, must contain at least 50% of the original four Nova Scotia grape varieties, and are crafted to express the distinctive “Nova Scotia Character” that defines the style.
This Lightfoot & Wolfville Tidal Bay is a personal favourite, offering a little more complexity and delicacy than many others in the category. Bright, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it’s an ideal companion for warm summer evenings, sunset drinks on the deck, and, of course, fresh seafood. A wonderful expression of Nova Scotia in the glass!
Vite Colte San Nicolao Barbera d’Asti
Bright, red, happy, and cheerful! Sometimes it feels like the world of red wine doesn’t leave us enough options for something lighter, fresher, and just plain fun. There’s plenty of Pinot Noir out there, of course, and Beaujolais gets its moment in the spotlight, but there’s a whole world of lighter reds waiting to be discovered.
Take Barbera, for example. A traditional grape from northern Italy, Barbera produces wines that are bright and fresh without being simple, wonderfully fruit-forward without being sweet, and balanced with the kind of effortless elegance that makes Italian wine so enjoyable. There’s even a little family resemblance to the fruit-driven character of Moscato d’Asti, although Barbera brings plenty of structure and sophistication of its own.
The Vite Colte Barbera brings all of this together beautifully. Vibrant, approachable, and full of character, it’s a refreshing alternative when you want a red wine that feels lighter on its feet without sacrificing flavour or elegance. And at a very reasonable price, it’s an easy one to recommend!
