Linda’s St Patrick’s Day Picks

Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin

St. Patrick’s Day is a day for celebrating all things Irish and for toasting the health and welfare of the people we hold near and dear, usually with something green in your glass.

Keeping the Irish green beverage in mind why not try this Irish Gin made with Green Tea as one of the botanicals. Gunpowder Tea is so called because each tea leaf has been rolled into a small ball, reminiscent of gunpowder and it’s that special ingredient that gives Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin its name.

This clear modern Gin has beautiful nose of citrus, star anise and notes of tea. It is bold and spicy with flavours of coriander, citrus and warm spice.

Don’t let the cobalt blue bottle fool you, this Gin is definitely Irish and wonderful on its own over ice, or with a splash of tonic, grapefruit wedge and a sprig of GREEN mint.

Writers’ Tears Redhead Irish Whiskey

Whiskey – “The water of life” and we’re not just saying that. The word “whiskey” actually comes from a Gaelic word that means “water of life” so, it’s perfect for St. Patrick’s Day, right?

A lovely fruity release from the Walsh distillery in south east Ireland, Writers Tears Red Head was named so because of its enticing shade of amber; a single malt has been matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks.

This whiskey starts with aromas of candied orange peel, chocolate covered marzipan, dried fruit, praline and tropical fruit. With the first sip you will find an oily nuttiness, with fruity Christmas cake, sweet pineapple, liquorice and milk chocolate. The finish is rich and warm with hints of walnut and oak with lingering baking spice.

On March 17th raise a glass and join in with an Irish toast, Slàinte Mhaith!
