The Canadian Red Cross, PEI Region is partnering with the Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission (PEILCC) to raise funds for relief efforts from the wildfires in Fort McMurray and other communities across northern Alberta.Customers will be invited to make a donation at any of the 18 PEI Liquor corporate retail outlets starting today May 4th, 2016.

“Given the close connections between our province and Fort McMurray, I have no doubt that Islanders will show their typical generosity in support of the Alberta Fires appeal”, said Hon. Allen Roach, minister responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission.

The PEILCC has led fundraising initiatives in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross over the past several years to generate funds for both local and international disaster relief. Examples include the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and the 2013 massive floods in southern Alberta.

“Our teams in Alberta will be supporting those evacuated from their homes in a number of ways including equipping and staffing emergency shelters, and we have trained volunteers here in PEI ready to deploy to assist if needed,” said Laura Johnson-Montigny, PEI Provincial Director of the Canadian Red Cross.

“In the meantime, Islanders looking to help can do so financially through this PEILCC campaign, or through other channels including online at www.redcross.ca or toll-free at 1-800-418-1111.”
