The PEILCC will sponsor free transportation at this year’s Cloggeroo festival to help keep visitors safe.

The Liquor Control Commission is supporting a free shuttle service for Prince Edward Island’s annual folk festival, which will bring musicians and fans from across Canada to the banks of the Brudenell River in Georgetown August 10 to 12. This is the fifth year that the commission has supported Cloggeroo through its Safe Communities program.

“We are pleased to partner with local volunteers of Cloggeroo for the first time ensuring festival goers have free access to transportation,” said Minister Heath MacDonald, who is the minister responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission. “This valuable service will also help keep impaired drivers off Island roads, making it easier for everyone to safely enjoy this fun-filled festival.”

Shuttle vans operate for festival pass holders around the town and between the festival and campground until 2 a.m. each of the three days. Accessible pick up by the vans is also available, which provides free access for support workers who must accompany a person with physical challenges in order to participate in the weekend’s events.

“The whole event is truly a community effort and completely run by volunteers”, said Kathleen Flanagan, who chairs the non-profit board of directors, “so we are thrilled that the PEI LCC is partnering with us this year.”

The free shuttle service has been applauded by the town of Georgetown and local RCMP as being essential to keeping everyone safe.

“RCMP are encouraged by this pro-active initiative by festival organizers and PEI’s Liquor Control Commission’s Safe Communities program to increase safety and decrease the chances of impaired driving,” said RCMP Sgt. Leanne Butler. “The group is going out of their way to provide options to festival attendees and we commend them for their foresight. We also encourage people to take advantage of this very generous offer and keep our Island roads safe for everyone.”

The 2018 Cloggeroo festival features 18 bands playing over the weekend including Juno award winners Rose Cousins, MonkeyJunk, as well as much-loved favourites Grand Theft Bus, Slowcoaster, Vishtèn, Mellotones, – with genres from folk to jazz to soul to boogie woogie.

“The music is truly world class,” said Jason Martell, who volunteers every year.
