PEILCC raises $30,894 in Heart & Stroke 7th Annual Paper Hearts fundraiser

The PEI Liquor Control Commission (PEILCC) staff put their hearts into the annual Paper Hearts campaign in support of Heart & Stroke during February, raising a grand total of $30,894. Dollars raised represent $2 donations from customers in all 17 PEI liquor corporate retail outlets across the province.

“We are delighted and grateful for this amazing Paper Hearts total from PEI Liquor Control Commission customers,” said Peter Norton, board chair, Heart and Stroke PEI. “However, it is not surprising; Islanders are known for their generous support of important causes and the community spirit of PEILCC has never been in doubt. Revenues from this campaign will go to support research and health promotion programs to help give residents of PEI and all of Canada more moments with loved ones.”

The PEILCC has helped to generate in excess of $81,000 through the Paper Hearts campaign over the past seven years.

“We are very pleased that the Paper Hearts campaign was so successful this year,” said Heath MacDonald, Minister responsible for the PEILCC. “Funds raised through this campaign will help the Heart and Stroke Foundation to continue their life-saving work against heart disease and stroke.”

“Over Heart & Stroke’s six plus decades of funding research, deaths from heart disease and stroke have declined by more than 75 per cent,” commented Norton. “However, there is much more work to be done, with nine in ten Islanders having at least one risk factor for heart disease and stroke.”
